Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Cajamarca.com is an independent online travel guide to Cajamarca, Peru. We publish information about the region: its landmarks, food, accommodation, and how to get here. We are not a tour operator, travel agency, or booking platform, and we do not sell or arrange travel services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect very little. Specifically:

  • Messages you send us: If you contact us, we receive whatever you choose to include, typically your name, email address, and your message.
  • Standard server logs: Our hosting provider records routine technical information such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, as part of operating and securing the site.

3. What We Do Not Collect

We do not take bookings, process payments, or store card details. We do not collect signed waivers or travel documents. We do not run a mailing list, and we do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to anyone.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above only to reply to your message and to keep the site working and secure. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

5. Cookies and Browser Storage

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. It uses your browser's local storage for one thing only: remembering whether you prefer to read the site in English or Spanish. That preference stays in your browser, is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

6. Third Parties and Affiliate Links

Pages on this site link to external websites, including accommodation and tour marketplaces such as Booking.com and Viator, and official and reference sources such as Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap. Some of those links are, or are intended to become, affiliate links: if you book through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend or what we write about a place.

Following any external link takes you to a service with its own privacy practices, which we do not control. Those services may set their own cookies and record their own information about your visit, including the fact that you arrived from this site. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit from here.

Some pages embed content from third parties, such as an OpenStreetMap map. Embedded content can see your IP address in the same way as visiting that service directly.

7. Where Your Information Is Handled

This site is hosted on servers operated by our hosting provider and delivered through a content network with locations around the world, so a request from you may be served from, and logged in, a country other than your own. Email we receive is handled by our email provider. Where information reaches a country with different data protection rules than yours, we rely on the safeguards those providers put in place for international transfers.

8. Why We Are Allowed to Handle It

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the law asks us to name a legal basis for handling personal information. Ours are straightforward: we answer your message because you asked us to and it is in our legitimate interest to reply, and we keep server logs because it is in our legitimate interest to run a working, secure website. We do not rely on consent for anything, because we do not run marketing or tracking.

9. Data Retention

Messages you send us are kept only as long as needed to respond and to keep a reasonable record of correspondence. Server logs are retained for a limited period as part of normal hosting operations, then discarded.

10. Your Rights

Wherever you live, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask for a copy of it. To do so, contact us via our contact page or at info@cajamarca.com. We will not charge you for asking, and we will not treat you differently for having asked.

Some places grant specific rights on top of that:

  • Europe and the United Kingdom: you may also object to or ask us to restrict our handling of your information, and you may complain to your national data protection authority.
  • California: you may ask what categories of personal information we have collected and request their deletion. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have no financial incentive programmes.
  • Peru: the rights of access, rectification, cancellation and objection under Law No. 29733 apply, and may be exercised through the contact details above.

11. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Since this site does not track visitors across websites and does not sell or share personal information, there is nothing for those signals to switch off, and your visit is treated the same either way.

12. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.

15. Contact and Complaints

For any privacy-related question or request, reach out via our contact page or email info@cajamarca.com. We aim to answer within a month.

If you are not satisfied with our response and you are in Europe or the United Kingdom, you may raise the matter with your national data protection authority. In Peru, complaints may be directed to the Autoridad Nacional de Proteccion de Datos Personales.
